Since the Housing Ceremony and the start of term feast, you have never stopped being impressed by the Great Hall of Hogwarts.
The fact that you have each meal there doesn’t change a thing, the enchanted ceiling hypnotizes you each time. Eat or walk inside the walls under the clouds has nothing crazy about it, it just is, here: the incredibly high ceiling cannot be made out for the simple reason that it’s bewitched to reproduce the sky outside. Therefore eating dry in the rain isn’t impossible anymore in your head. Here is the Great Hall of Hogwarts.
Besides the enchanted ceiling, the architecture itself would have been enough to draw wide eyes from anyone. Immense, superb, this Hall can contain at the same time all the students and teachers during meals and feasts. Who wouldn’t fear to get lost in it?
Between the tables and the ceiling, thousands of candles are floating, lighting the Great Hall. It is, rather often, possible that the ghosts lighten up the meal through spectacular apparitions… or that Peeves appears above you for the only pleasure of pouring the dishes on you.
The four tables, one for each House, are lined up, Slytherin beside the entrance, Gryffindor at the other end, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw between them. Pushing more precisely Mrs Rowling’s indications, one could say that Hufflepuff is beside Slytherin.
At a right angle, at one end, the teachers’ table faces the students with, in its center, the Headmistress’ chair. Eat quietly, children, the trouble makers are watched…
